NMC has been in business for over 20 years and worked with law firms across the country, ranging from solo practices to firms with hundreds of attorneys. The digital space has evolved over that time in terms of what makes for a great law firm website, and NMC has stayed at the forefront, helping distinguish our clients through engaging design, intuitive visitor experiences, scalable and usable technology, and best practices around Search Engine Optimization, AI Optimization / GEO, and more.
Our work has won national awards, and our team of experienced legal web experts is ready to closely collaborate with your team to conceive and build a digital solution that achieves and exceeds your specific goals.
We work to understand what distinguishes your firm and what your primary target audiences care about most, and our team of strategists build that into a custom plan and design to help your site tell your unique story and help you stand out on your merits. The way clients find, scrutinize, and engage firms is rapidly evolving, and it's important that your firm's website is focused on meeting clients where they are, pulling them into your site, engaging them with your firm's differentiators, and pushing them to take the next step to reach out. Some firms just need a site that serves as a validation tool for referrals to prove their legitimacy while others need their site to serve as a client-attracting tool through ranking well in Search Engines and AI Results; we're focused on understanding what your firm needs to get out of your web presence to best support business development goals and helping design and build around those goal outcomes.
We have been partnering with law firms since 2006 to help them design, build, and scale custom digital brands.

We’ve partnered with firms of all sizes to strategize, design, and build winning solutions with law firms around the country. A key aspect of our work is our deep collaboration with our clients, and we pair that with our ability to proactively advise you around what will help you succeed online today as we've learned from working with firms for two decades. We create plans and designs custom to our clients, but embedded in our process are some core beliefs and recommendations:
You do, completely. When NMC builds your law firm website, your firm owns the code, the design, the content, and the domain. There are no proprietary platforms, licensing fees, or lock-in. This matters because some legal website vendors build on closed systems, and if you ever leave, you lose your site and start from scratch. We build on open, widely supported platforms so that your site is a firm asset you control, and any qualified developer can carry it forward in the future. Of course, we think you'll want to stay with us.
Law firm website costs vary widely, and it's worth understanding how different providers price their work. Some vendors, especially in the legal space, build template sites or offer a low upfront cost paired with high monthly fees that lock you into their platform. Our approach is different: we design and build custom websites that your firm owns outright, with our most basic sites starting around $15,000 and larger engagements ranging up to $200,000.
As a general breakdown, a firm with under 30 attorneys looking for a solid web presence with four to six custom layouts is typically in the $15,000 to $30,000 range. A firm with 30 to 60 attorneys that needs more sophisticated design work and content migration is usually in the $35,000 to $75,000 range. Larger firms that need custom features, advanced content migration, and deeper strategic work generally start at $75,000 and up.
Every firm's needs are a little different, and these ranges can shift a good bit based on scope, so the best step is to get in touch with us. We'll talk through your goals and price out a proposal specific to your firm.
For smaller law firm websites, we aim for three to five months from kickoff to launch, and for larger sites we target five to nine months. We'll be honest: law firm websites often take a little longer than standard projects, simply because attorneys are busy people and finding time to review copy and designs between billable hours is a very real constraint. We plan for that reality from the start.
Content is always the biggest variable in a website timeline. Firms that begin gathering attorney bios, practice area descriptions, and photography early keep projects moving, and in our experience, folks can't start on content soon enough. We'll help you build a content plan on day one so nothing catches you by surprise.
Legal-exclusive shops know the vertical, but a full-service agency that works deeply in legal offers real advantages. NMC has designed and built law firm websites since 2006, and we pair that legal experience with what we learn across the other industries we serve. We work with professional service groups like private equity and venture capital firms that push to be truly cutting-edge in design, and we bring that same design ambition to our law firm clients. We also work with very large e-commerce clients where SEO, GEO, and conversion performance are paramount, and those lessons directly inform how we build law firm sites that attract and convert clients.
It's also worth watching out for a common model among legal-focused vendors: a low upfront fee that leads into high monthly payments and a proprietary system you can't leave. That's not how we work. You own everything we build, and our clients stay with us because of the results, not because they're locked in.
The best test is the work itself: review an agency's law firm portfolio, talk to their legal clients, and judge whether the sites feel distinct.
In our opinion, and after two decades of building law firm websites, WordPress is the best fit for most firms. Its open source and unlocked nature means your firm isn't tied to any single vendor, and its position as the world's most popular CMS means a wide array of developers can carry your site forward for years to come. It's also intuitive for attorneys and staff to update without technical help.
We know WordPress can carry some security concerns for folks upfront, and it's a fair question to ask. We address it by keeping our builds lean and minimizing the plugins we use, which is where most WordPress vulnerabilities come from, and as part of our ongoing relationship we handle security updates for our clients.
That said, the "best" CMS can be in the eye of the beholder, and some firms are really accustomed to other systems. That's why we stay flexible: we've built law firm websites on Craft, Drupal, ExpressionEngine, and other platforms when a firm's needs called for it. What matters most is a well-architected site with clean content structures for attorney bios, practice areas, and insights that will serve your firm for a decade.
AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews increasingly shape how clients find and vet law firms, and websites need to be built for it. We optimize law firm websites for AI discovery by using structured data that AI crawlers can quickly parse, organizing content into clear, well-labeled sections that are easy for AI systems to quote and cite, ensuring AI crawlers can access the site, and building the authoritative, interconnected content that gets referenced as a source in AI answers. This work, sometimes called Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) or AI Optimization, is now baked into our strategy for every law firm project.
Performant and Accessible: Sites are judged, ranked, and assessed by the experiences they provide. Additionally, the landscape has quickly required legal websites and others to put in additional work to be accessible by WCAG standards in addition to technical best practices around cookie management. We strive to have all of our sites perform well around speed and delivery along with having years of experience working with accessibility guidelines to help sites be accessible and clear additional compliance rules. We'll partner with you to handle as much as possible on the development side to spare you from needing to actively worry about it.
