Population Media Center

A Comprehensive Redesign for a Global Media Nonprofit

Population Media Center is a global nonprofit that uses strategic storytelling to promote important interconnected messages about social and environmental issues.

Founded with the goal of raising awareness about global sustainability, Population Media Center works with partners around the world to produce television, radio, and podcast programming that addresses issues related to women’s rights, environmental conservation, and population growth. The shows are popular with their target audiences and have impacted approximately 13 million lives over the past five years.

Population Media Center’s site contained an impressive amount of content and resources, but had become difficult to manage and navigate over time. They approached us to design and develop a new nonprofit website design that would prioritize user-experience in addition to offering a bold new look and feel.

Creating a Recognizable New Look

To match the dynamic energy of Population Media Center’s work, we designed the site around unexpected shapes, bright pops of accent colors, strong fonts, and vibrant photography. All of this can be seen on the site’s homepage, which leverages a non-traditional masthead design to immediately establish a unique visual language. The homepage also includes action tiles for self-segmentation, impact statistics, recent news, and multiple calls-to-action.

A New Chapter for PMC

With a modern design and a sophisticated back-end setup, the new Population Media Center website is an effective tool for sharing information and activating new supporters. Built on an intuitive WordPress base, the site is also easily scalable – the Population Media Center team can update content and create new pages without specialized web knowledge or developer assistance.

Post-launch, we’re excited to continue the relationship with Population Media Center in several ways. First, by offering on-demand marketing support to ensure that new digital materials are consistent with the updated site design. Second, by partnering to launch additional microsites for key initiatives and special projects. The first of those sites, for Crossing the Line Podcast, puts the spotlight on reproductive rights with authentic storytelling and an online resource center.

We're looking forward to continuing our work with Population Media Center as they grow these digital platforms and their overall online reach.
