NMC has been in business for over 20 years and worked with firms across the built environment, ranging from studios of a few dozen people to international practices with hundreds of staff across multiple continents. Our clients include architecture practices, multidisciplinary engineering firms, general contractors and construction managers, environmental and infrastructure consultants, planners, and the developers who hire them. The digital space has evolved considerably over that time in terms of what makes a great AEC website, and we've stayed at the forefront, helping distinguish our clients through immersive design, rich project storytelling, prospect-driven navigation, and best practices around Search Engine Optimization, AI Optimization / GEO, and more.
Our work in this space has won national awards, including first place for Best AEC Website at the 2024 Zweig Group Marketing Excellence Awards, and our team is ready to collaborate closely with yours to build a digital presence that reflects the ambition of the firm behind it. .
Design sells in this industry. Your firm competes on craft, and prospective clients, selection committees, and candidates all make a judgment about the caliber of your work within seconds of landing on the site, usually long before they read a word of your capabilities language. A site that feels considered signals a firm that is considered. A site that feels dated signals the opposite, fairly or not, and that impression is very hard to recover from once it's formed.
We work to understand what actually distinguishes your firm, which projects and services matter most to where the business is going, and what each of your priority audiences is trying to find, and our team of strategists and designers builds that into a custom plan and design. That means project pages with real depth and immersive media, entry points that let an owner, a public agency, a partner firm, or a prospective hire self-select into the content built for them, and a design language that carries visual weight on every page rather than only on the ones where you happen to have a great photograph.
The way firms get found and evaluated is also changing quickly. Many visitors will never see your homepage, arriving instead on a project page or a service page straight from a Google result, an AI answer, or a link someone sent them. We design and build with that reality in mind, making sure interior pages stand on their own, connect visitors to related work, and give them somewhere meaningful to go next.

A key aspect of our work is our deep collaboration with our clients, and we pair that with our ability to proactively advise you around what will help you succeed online today as we've learned from working with firms for two decades. We create plans and designs custom to our clients, but embedded in our process are some core beliefs and recommendations:
AEC web design is website design and development for firms in architecture, engineering, and construction, along with the adjacent disciplines in the built environment like planning, environmental consulting, and real estate development. What separates it from general web design is the content architecture. AEC firms have deep project portfolios, multiple service lines, several distinct audiences, and a recruiting problem, and the site has to serve all of that at once rather than functioning as a brochure.
Room for the work to breathe, primarily. Architecture practices are judged on design vision, so the site itself has to demonstrate craft, with full-scale imagery, considered pacing, and project pages that read as narratives rather than spec sheets. Beyond that, a portfolio that can be filtered and explored, and a design language strong enough to carry pages where the photography isn't there yet.
It depends on scope, but the main drivers are the depth of discovery, the number of custom templates, and how much content needs to be migrated. A focused redesign for a firm with an existing site and clear direction sits well below a full strategy and rebuild for a multidisciplinary firm with hundreds of projects and several audiences to serve. We're happy to talk through ranges early rather than making you go through a long process to get a number.
Most projects run between four and eight months from kickoff to launch, depending on the depth of discovery, the number of templates, and how much content migration is involved. Project-heavy sites with large portfolios and complex filtering tend toward the longer end. We'll give you a phased timeline upfront and keep the time commitment from your team as light as we reasonably can.
For most firms it's WordPress, and roughly 85% of what we build runs on it. We custom build each site rather than starting from a theme, and we lean heavily on a block-based setup so your marketing team can assemble new pages from designed components. That said, we've built AEC sites on Craft as well, including KPF, and we'll recommend the platform that fits your content and your team rather than defaulting to one answer.
This is the most common concern we hear, and it's solvable. We design project pages in tiers so a project with a full media library gets an immersive treatment while a project defined by its facts and one strong image still looks deliberate. We also lean on design depth, custom iconography, gradients and texture, motion, and typographic hierarchy, to carry visual weight on pages where photography is thin. The site should be designed for the trajectory your asset library is on, not just where it is today.
Yes, and that's a core goal of every build. We set up a library of designed content blocks in the CMS so your team can publish projects, add team members, build market and service pages, and stand up campaign landing pages on their own while the design stays consistent. We provide training sessions and record them for future reference, and we stay on as a support partner afterward.
A few things matter most. Clear content hierarchy and semantic markup so AI systems can parse what your firm does and where. Structured, detailed project and service content that can be cited as a source rather than skimmed past. Schema markup that makes your services, locations, and projects machine-readable. And deep internal connection between related content, which helps these systems understand the breadth of your expertise in a given market or discipline. The same architecture that makes the site useful for a visitor is what makes it legible to an AI system.
