Big Chef Little Chef was created by Chef Lorena Garcia with the goal of combating childhood obesity through educational workshops that teach the value of healthy eating and encourage cooking as a family. For such a youth-focused organization, Big Chef Little Chef required a site that would appeal to both adults and children. NMC created a site that is fun, simple to navigate, and well-organized. This is the second time NMC has worked with Chef Lorena Garcia, having designed her main website in the past.
Some standout features on the site include a video display on the homepage, a recipe page, and locations throughout the site that showcase upcoming events and classes. An introduction video sits in a light box and adds a multimedia aspect to an already visually-stimulating homepage. As visitors scroll down the homepage they can learn more about Chef Lorena, and view featured recipes and a photo gallery of past events. An entire page of the site is dedicated to recipes. Here, recipes accompany photos of the finished food products. Symbols signifying "gluten-free" or other qualities inform visitors who are looking for the perfect meal to make.
The main way Big Chef Little Chef educates children and families about healthy eating is through on-location cooking classes, events, and workshops. Advertising upcoming classes was a priority when designing the site. Dates of future classes and call-to-action buttons are posted on the homepage and throughout the site so visitors may register on the spot when they see a class that piques their interest.
All of these features and pages are flushed with bright, warm colors and playful imagery related to cooking. This site is sure to inform parents, entertain children, and communicate Chef Lorena's vision as they learn about Big Chef Little Chef.
