Our Work

NC Marine Science

A comprehensive site and interactive map make North Carolina's Marine Science a leader in their space

Towards the end of 2008, New Media Campaigns was asked to develop a website that would serve as a central location for people to come and learn about the different North Carolina Marine Science labs and programs around the state. Partnering with Liaison Design, New Media was able to deliver a website that showcased the diverse marine science clusters and offered a myriad of resources and information about the state's marine science research.

One of the key features of the NC Marine Science website is the interactive map. Unlike other web development companies who opt to use Flash in this situation, New Media decided to use jQuery, which would allow for easy updates through our content management system, search engine friendly content, and a naturally layered architecture.

To make the map as engaging as possible, there needed to be smooth animations and crisp graphics. Liaison beautifully designed the artwork and our jQuery expert, Joel Sutherland was able to turn it into an exciting focal point for the website. Joel documented the entire process as a blog post that has since been viewed more than 10,000 times. Users were so impressed with the interactive map that many have downloaded the program we used to develop it.

New Media was excited to work on such a fun project in partnership with a talented design firm and such an ambitious client. The entire North Carolina Marine Sciences website is controlled by our content management system, allowing the client to easily update the information with the newest resources and data. NCMarineScience.com is  a great website that allows visitors to explore the initiatives across the state and New Media was happy to help make it happen.
